A new web film by Raihan Rafi titled Amalnama is generating buzz after the release of its trailer.
The trailer, which recently dropped online, opens with lines from the poem “Amake Ebar Pichhomoora Koro” by poet-actor-director Kamruzzaman Kammu.
The lines, “Now, tie me up from behind, blindfold me, Lord / I have never seen the heart of any man anywhere,” are recited by Kammu himself, setting a gripping tone for the film.
The trailer quickly introduces a tense scene where a group of people invade Toma Mirza’s home and take a family member.
The words “In the middle of the night, those taken away in plain clothes / Do they all return home?” appear on screen, hinting at a story about missing persons, leaving viewers with a sense of eerie uncertainty.
Although the film`s makers have not confirmed it directly, the trailer strongly suggests that the story is inspired by the high-profile 2018 murder of Councillor Ekramul Haque. Toward the end of the trailer, a voice belonging to Imran Zaman’s character is heard saying, “Someone will be needed, there is pressure from above.”
This adds more intrigue to the mystery surrounding the plot.
Amalnama will be released on March 13 on a local OTT platform, with the official poster unveiled on March 3.
The poster, which features the key characters, also includes words like "Crossfire," "Gunfight," and "Extrajudicial Killing" in blurred letters.
These words hint that the film will explore themes related to these controversial and often violent events.
Raihan Rafi explained the motivation behind his work, sharing that whenever he has questioned the system or society, challenges have arisen, but they have never stopped him from speaking out through his films.
He said, “I make films, and cinema is my language of protest. We’ve taken inspiration from a true incident, but the story is primarily fictional.”
Toma Mirza plays the role of Parveen, whose character spends much of the trailer searching desperately for her missing husband.
The emotional tension is evident as she fights to uncover his whereabouts. Along with Toma, the film also features actors like Zahid Hasan, Gazi Rakayet, Sarika Sabrin, Hasnat Ripon, and others in prominent roles.
As the trailer suggests, Amalnama looks set to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, offering a powerful mix of suspense, drama, and social commentary.
